On the heels of her international Unbreakable Tour, it was dope to get a call from Janet Jackson's tour DJ, Aktive to do a quick remix of one of her popular records! I call it "Penny" with the original vocals from "Someone To Call My Lover". Have you grabbed tickets to the show? If so and you hear it played, make sure to grab some footage! Haha! Take a listen below! #helloworld.
Well my fellow crate diggers, this is the final #SundaeSample mix! Have you enjoyed the ride so far? I’d love to know what you thought about the mixes so make sure to leave a comment on Soundcloud or down below on the blog.
Did you guess the sample right for A$AP Rocky’s “Peso?” I think someone guessed it right on my Instagram! Nonetheless, this week’s mix is taking you on a world tour! See the great thing about hip hop is that it doesn’t just pull from soul music. It pulls from influences all over the world. This week’s mix is giving you a taste of that versatility.
Though this may be the end of the series for a moment, don’t worry, there may just be more to come with #sundaesamples so stay tuned. Also, feel free to share some of your favorite sampled records with me as well!
Take a listen and again, let me know what you think. And don’t be afraid to spread the word and share
This week I wanted to dig a little deeper in the crates. This week’s #sundaesamples mix will feature
some of our favorites, including one group that I know many were excited to see on the BET Awards during Diddy’s set.
That was a great reminder of an era of music that was super influential. I’m glad that you guys are enjoying the mixes and hey share them with a friend if you’re really feeling it. Do you know the samples as soon as they come on or does it take you a few to figure it out? It is crazy how tuned in my ear has always been to the nuances of sampled records.
Anyway take a listen, don’t be afraid to comment and let me know what you think. Did you guess the sample right from Kendrick’s King Kunta? Muasberg ft. DJ Quik – Get Nekkid.
***Game time*** Tell me the name and artist of the sample from A$AP Rocky’s “Peso” in the comments below. And stay tuned for next week’s mix for the answer.
The #INRGI was high on Friday, June 19 at Pub Webb Live as music producer and performance DJ, Dilemma brought his unique vision to life. As a part of the Philly Music Room series, this one was a show for the record books as Dilemma put on an hour and half show of pure, unadulterated #INRGI. His live show featured fog cannons, dancing, performances by Chill Moody and Beano, and a full horn section at one point even including Dilemma himself on sax. His on-stage presence was explosive and the audience had no idea what they were in for. His musical prowess led the crowd on a journey from Jersey club and EDM through his Fl!Ps on popular records to many of today’s hottest club anthems. The opening DJ set featured LA-based DJ Selectra who set up the crowd masterfully for Dilemma to come and crush the stage. One of the most unique shows Philadelphia has seen to date, you will not want to miss the next wave of #INRGI

I am back with another #sundaesample mix for you. Let me know how you liked last weeks! This week, I am bringing a whole new spin on some of your favorite records and the samples that they were derived from.
Do you appreciated the creativity like I do as a producer? Well no worries if not, just enjoy the mix and let me know how you're liking them in the comments. Did you guess the sample for School Boy Q's "Man of the Year" correctly? I won't judge.
****GAME TIME, Tell me the name and artist of the sample from “Kick Push” by Lupe Fiasco in the comments below! And stay tuned for next week’s mix to see if you have the right answer!****
The greatest thing about sampling is the ability to not only re-imagine the work of past artists but also to take an opportunity to mix and cross genres. This is one of the things that I love about music. Not only is sampling the foundation of hip-hop, we have seen it seep into and affect musical styles across the board. You can take a house record or a funk record and turn it into something completely different.
For the next few weeks, I’ll share some new mixes on Sundae's that include some of the most innovative sampling of today. Some you may know, some you may not know. But listen and enjoy and seek out the original records! Really dope to see how producers’ minds work to be able to hear a simple part of a song that sparks a completely new idea.
Creativity is not always about the right scale or the right notes. Many times people will try to discredit the art of sampling, but if you know like I know, it’s no easy feat to make something amazing by taking multiple pieces of a puzzle to create a masterpiece. It’s a skill like anything else and J. Dilla, Kanye, 9th Wonder – are some of the best to do it. Take a listen and enjoy! #helloworld
